  • Phenomenal Friday

We had another great day full activities and happy campers. The weather finally cooled down and camp had a great buzz.

Our camper talent show was tonight so all the campers in the show were rehearsing their talents throughout the day. We had singers, comedians, dancers, drummers, impressionists, trumpet players and more. There is one thing we learned about our camp family, we have very talented campers here at CAW. The big show was fantastic and the performers got big applause after each act. It is amazing to see that when our campers take the stage, they are cheered on and supported by the entire camp. No matter if one sings out of tune or misses a step, there are cheers, claps and applause. We are a true camp family that lift each other up. Tonight was awesome!!

Can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring.

  • ‘s was a Chenny Idol day!

We had a perfect camp day, full of regular activities.  The day was fun and full of camp spirit. Campers were excited about the new giant slide and watermat that made their debut in our lake today. The 10″ slide is amazing and the campers could not wait to get on it and take a slide down into the cool lake. It was a day that the campers played on the beach and made huge & elaborate sand castles. What a fun day we had!

With the sun going down, all the camp chatter was about Chenny Idol. The campers loaded into the Rec Hall and watched the Chenny Idol auditions. But the big news was who would be named the Top 10 finalists and here are our finalists: Julia Blee, Julia Bromley, Jake Quadrino, Carly Wills, Julie Mendleson, Alyssa Innamorato, Daniel Gur, Jessica Leason, Sofie Wolf and Alissa Abramson. All ten finalists will perform live in front of the whole camp, trying to get in the top 3 spots for our big finale show.  The winner will get a limo for his/her bunk and get to go out on the town for dinner. They also get a star inside the School of Rock that will hang on the walls for years to come. Congratulations to all our finalists and all the campers who auditioned.

I asked a new camper today if camp was everything she thought it would be and she responded with, “I have never had so much fun. I have never missed my parents so much. I never thought I would actually do the trapeze, but I did. And I never want to leave this place.”

Another great day at Camp Chen-A-Wanda.

  • A Wonderful Wednesday

Today was a terrific day at camp. After yesterdays trip, we had a late wake up to give our campers some extra zzzz’s. It was regular activity day and with the heat still blazing, our pool, lake and the zone was the cool place to be. Our Hydration Team, aka Camp Mom’s, set up their table full of ice cold water so that all our campers stayed hydrated. We had a fantastic day and the mood was great. Center camp had rockin’ music playing and the campers were in the groove.

It was Round Robin Night again at camp. The Collegiates , Seniors, Supers, GC’s and CIT’s watched Heavyweights in our outdoor movie theater. Our Junior, Middy and Inter Girls enjoyed a night swim party. They all had a ball. Our Junior Middy and Inter Boys got into The Zone for some fun night water balloon fun!!

It was just a GREAT day at Camp Chen-A-Wanda and we are all in the swing of one fantastic summer!

  • Trip Day

Days like today showed us how lucky we all are to be here, alive and well.

Our Inters, Collegiates, Seniors and Supers headed out to Mountain Creek Water Park. Our GC’s had a blast at Camel Beach and then enjoyed a little shopping. The CIT’s and Waits loved their day out as well. As our earlier email stated, we kept the Juniors and Middies at camp and they all had a great day here at camp. They had the whole place to themselves and ended the day with a movie in our Chen-A-Plex.

All campers are back home, safe and sound. Sometimes life presents those moments where we count our blessings. Today was one of those days.

  • Sizzling at CAW!

As the temperature got hotter, we cooled down in the pool, on the lake and in the Zone. Water balloons were flinging and it was that kind of day where all needed to get wet. Our hydration team (Camp Mom’s) set up a table full of fresh cold fruit and water so that our campers kept hydrated. Even though the heat was turned up, it didn’t stop us from having a blast here at CAW.  Super Boys & Girls escaped the heat for a while as they enjoyed a movie in our cool Chen-A-Plex.

Tonight’s evening activity had our Bachelors and Bachelorettes picking their ideal date in our version of the Dating Game. Each division played the game and the winning couples will be going out to dinner on a big group date. Love is in the air!!!!

Our camp spirit was full throttle at tonight’s staff soccer game as we beat Independent Lake 3-0. The campers cheered on our soccer staff and they felt the spirit.

We are all excited for tomorrow’s trips. Juniors and Middies are heading to Camel Beach for some water park fun. Inters, Collegiates, Seniors and Supers are going to Mountain Creek. Our GC’s will be at Camel Beach for the day then off to The Crossing Outlets for some shopping.

We can’t wait for trip day!!!

  • Spirit Day !!!!!

It was a great 4th of July here at Chen-A-Wanda. We started the day with having each division dress in any spirited way they wanted. All throughout camp, our kids were heading to their activities dressed as Egyptians, Sumo Japanese Wrestlers, Jamaicans, Native Americans and Israelis to name a few. Campus was dressed with Red, White and Blue decorations and the spirit was alive today as we honored American Independence Day.

We all gathered in the Rec Hall as our Head Staff entertained the camp with a comical, history revue of how our four fathers founded our country. Then it was off to the amphitheater for our Big Firework show. All the campers had glow sticks as they walked up the hill. Everyone got situated and settled into their seats and as America the Beautiful starting to play, the fireworks began. It was AMAZING!! We all just sat back, listened to the music and watched the most spectacular firework show in our own backyard. A magical day that we will never forget.

Can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring.

  • Hot Hot Hot….

It was a hot one today. Waterfront was hoppin’ and the kids were in the pool. Sand castles were being built all over our beach. All this adds up to a fantastic 4th of July weekend.

Campers were busy in all their activities and camp had a great vibe today. Music was blasting in center camp and kids would be boppin’ their heads to the rhythm as they walked to and from activities.

Chenny Idol auditions are officially done and now we await the judges decision to which 10 superstars will advance. The top 10 finalists will perform live in front of the whole camp. We had over 100 campers audition for the show, all vying for that desirable title of Camp Chen-A-Wanda 2010 Chenny Idol. It’s a camp favorite so be sure to look out for the videos on our website.

We ended the day with our Staff Talent show. The campers loved watching their counselors sing, dance, and show off their incredible talents. It was fantastic show and the spirit of our staff was over the moon.

We are all looking forward to spirit day tomorrow as we all celebrate the 4th of July in our own special way.

  • Rockin’ with Camp Rock Star

We had another fabulous day at camp today. It was Camp Rock Star at CAW. All the divisions spent the day prepping for their big show. After rehearsing with the band throughout the day, each division got to show their stuff and rock out with the band in front of the whole camp at our evening activity. It was an incredible show and we all loved it.

Today was a big day for our travel teams. Wayne County games were in full swing and our campers were out giving it their all; showing their Chenny Pride!

It’s only been a week and it feels like we’ve been here forever. We are having a blast here and can’t wait for tomorrow.

  • Say Cheese… It’s picture day.

It was another fantastic day at camp. The day started off with everyone smiling for their camp pictures. Bunk, sibling and individual pictures were taken today in the teen center. Then it was off to the Dining Hall for one of the most memorable lunches in Chen-A-Wanda history. We had a giant impromptu sing-a-long session during lunch. The entire camp stood on their chairs as we ALL sang Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Believing, Sweet Caroline and a few other favorites. You had to see it to believe it but it was an incredible lunch.

We kicked off our Chenny Idol auditions today and had a huge turnout. Campers were rehearsing their tunes and then walked into the studio where they were face to face with the judges. This years’ Chenny Idol is looking to be a summer favorite. Can’t wait to see who advances.

Sign & Song was so amazing tonight and all the campers enjoyed tonight’s show. All the bunks made their plaques and then Girls side performed their dances. They put on such a great show. We are so very proud of all the girls. Congratulations to our Sign and Song winners:  Sign: Boys Bunk H & Boys Bunk O. Girls Bunk G and Girls O. A big victory to the Girls Song Winners: Girls Bunk I and Girls Bunk W. Way to go!

    A great day at Chen-A-Wanda!

  • First Day of Hobby…

We had another great day today. There was a slight chill in the air but it was perfect day for all our activities. Kids were out and about and loving it.

There were smiling campers because today everyone had Hobby. We are glad to report that 98% of our campers got their first choice for Hobby. To say that we had happy campers would be an understatement.

Wayne County games are underway and we are so proud of our Senior girls who won their 1st softball game vs. Tioga with a final score of 22-8. There is nothing like hearing that horn honking as the team drives up Camp Rd. with a bus full of players who played hard and won. We are so proud of them. Go Girls!!

Tonight’s evening activity was Wacky and Wild. We had Powerhouse Studio doing a Wacky & Wild Game show. The campers competed throwing rubber chicken into big bins, hopped in hibbity hops and got pied in the face. For a select few, it was off to the Booger Blaster. It was wild, it was wacky and it was so much fun!!

And the best news yet,  we get to do this all over again tomorrow!!
