  • We Weathered the Storm

Even without power this camp rocks. We ate by candlelight but had hot delicious meals.  Many times I have mentioned in these blogs that there is a feeling of family here at CAW and nothing can best describe that than the past 48 hours.  The campers barely noticed that the power was out because it was camp as usual. The nights became a fun bunk party of flickering flashlights. When I tell you it was a party here, that is no exaggeration. Your kids were amazing and they have a story and an experience that will be with them forever.

The rain was off and on today and though we tried to get some games in, that proved too difficult. Mother Nature had her way today so our games needed to be rescheduled. As the sun peaked out this afternoon, it was a perfect time to honor our Campers of the week. To be recognized this week was truly an honor as we had to be extra patient, flexible and understanding. We are so proud of all our campers but an extra great job to the following who went above and beyond this week.

It was 5:30pm and it happened, our power was restored. You could here our joyous cheers all the way across Fiddle Lake. It was a moment, we will never forget. All of us on camp grounds will remember exactly where they were when the lights went on. It was a great moment and as we all headed into the Lodge for dinner, there was an excitement of normalcy. Having our meals by candlelight was awesome but eating with every light on the lodge turned on was AMAZING!!! Then there was music and lots of it. We were in the mood to celebrate, sing and dance and that is exactly what we did. Pure joy and celebration occurred in The Lodge tonight. Can’t quite describe the elation but the video will be up soon and you can see for yourself how we ended Blackout 2012!

It was back to regular evening activity and we had our lower camp boys in the Rec Hall for a mass GAGA tournament. Music was bumpin’ and they were loving GAGA. Lower camp girls were in the teen center for some BINGO fun. Upper camp Boys and Girls loaded into the Lodge to watch a movie and loved it as they enjoyed some hot cocoa and snacks with their movie.

What an experience we all went through and now with blackout 2012 behind us, we can say “let’s go on with the last 2 weeks of summer”. Bring it!

    Chenny out.

  • Let There Be Light!

The lights are on here at CHEN-A-WANDA!!!

After a great day of activities, we are happy to report power has been fully restored here at C-A-W!!!

Please bear with us as our phone and internet systems come back into service. Phone calls will resume tomorrow. There will be a slight delay in posting pictures and video.

We will post a normal blog post tonight with a recap of all today’s activities.

  • ‘s Might…

Good morning! Still no lights here, but that is not going to stop us from having some good ol’ Chenny fun! We had a delicious breakfast and are out to freeplay. After a normal lunch and rest hour, we will be having our awards ceremonies on boys and girls side. We will run normal activities in the afternoon, as the sun is shining.

Once again, everyone is safe and enjoying themselves here at camp. With the exception of lights, incoming phone calls, and internet, we are fully operational.

We will continue to operate as normal and keep you informed on the happenings at camp.

  • Camp As Usual…

Good evening. Camp is nice and bright with all our generators and lights, and we had a great dinner. Our campers had great costumes at Halloween, loved the movies, and have all showered and brushed their teeth. All bunks have bottled water and all our counselors are on.

Please keep in mind we still have no phone or internet, so campers will not have their scheduled phone calls. We are told power should be restored by tomorrow, and we will keep you informed.

Rest assured, everyone is safe and having a great time. The Lodge is fully operational and the kids are enjoying hot delicious meals.

  • Blackout Schmackout

    Who needs power? We don’t.

Today our campers got to celebrate Halloween at camp. They had a costume parade and got to go trick or treating. Tonight we are having an in camp movie and our inters and collegiates are out to the movies.

We have generators powering our kitchen, health center (for medication), water pumps to allow for showering and teeth brushing, and rec hall so we can have our movie.

Everyone is totally safe and enjoying this unique fun-filled experience.

Please note that all tours and rookie days are canceled for tomorrow, so if you or anyone you know is planning on coming to visit us, please know that we a focusing on keeping everything running for our campers and staff.

Hope all of our families are safe and recovering from the storm as well, and we will keep you posted with any developments.

  • Weather Update 3

Good morning! it’s a beautiful day at camp, but we still do not have power. Everyone is safe and all our staff will remain on duty throughout the day. We are proceeding with our regularly scheduled brunch and daily activities.

  • Virginia Buses Have Arrived

Our campers and staff from the Virginia trip have arrived safely.

  • Weather Update 2

We are waiting for our children on the Virginia trip to arrive back at camp. Everyone at camp is safely back in their bunks after a great dinner, dance party, and canteen. The camp is illuminated with portable generator lights and all our staff is on duty. We will update you once the Virginia trip arrives back at camp.

  • Weather Update

The storm has passed, and all our campers and staff are safe. At this time the camp is without power, although we expect it to return soon. We have no incoming phone or Internet service, and you may not be able to reach the answering service at this time. However, the camp has the ability to make outgoing calls if the need were to arise.

The kids had a great dinner and are enjoying canteen.

Hope everyone else is safe as the storm passes through.

  • SIMON SEZ CHENNY IS AWESOME

It was a picture perfect day. The sun was actually glistening on Fiddle Lake and it was remarkable. It was one of those days that didn’t have a cloud in the sky and happy campers we are all around, enjoying activities and loving being here.  It was regular activities and games and all around a fantastic camp day.

Our lower camp girls participated in a gymnastics tournament at Camp Wayne on Monday (7/23).  CAW placed 5th out of 9th. We are proud of all the girls who participated and they enjoyed competing.  Go Girls!

It was also a great day for a few games. Our 5th Grade Boys played a friendly game vs. Tioga. Final score – Tioga 11 vs. CAW 4.

Congratulations to our 7th Grade Girls Tennis team who defeated Westmont with a 5 – 0 win. They are off to the Championships. Way to go girls! It was Chenny Domination.

Our Supers, GC’s and CIT’s spent the day in D.C. and had a great day. The saw all the sights and spent the day touring our capitals monuments. It was a fantastic day and they enjoyed every minute of their adventure.

Simon Sez hands up, Simon Sez hands down! Simon Sez we had a great evening activity tonight and all the campers were wowed by Steve Max and his giant game of Simon Sez. Campers and counselors laughed and laughed and laughed some more as they were confused by his quick commands and outrageous fun and games. What a great night!

    Chenny out.
